■演題 “AI and City Planning:Australian Insights and emerging trends for the global cities”
By 2050, nearly 70% of the world’s population is expected to live in cities, placing growing pressure on urban infrastructure and natural resources. In this context, technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) will play a vital role in planning, governing, and managing future cities. Australia has already launched a range of initiatives to accelerate the use of AI in city planning and in the delivery of essential infrastructure, including housing and public spaces.
In this public lecture, Prof Hoon Han of the Cities Institute at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney examines the role of AI in city planning across Australia. He outlines how state and local governments are adopting smart tools to reduce administrative burdens while improving planning efficiency, resource management, liveability, and economic outcomes. Drawing on rigorous research, Prof Han argues that AI creates new opportunities for collaboration among global cities such as Tokyo, Sydney, and Seoul, enabling them to develop shared solutions more efficiently. These partnerships can conserve resources and help cities respond more quickly to common urban challenges.
